PANTHERS SIGN 2nd-ROUND CHOICE SHORT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 22, 2013

The Carolina Panthers have signed 2013 second-round draft choice (44th overall) Kawann Short, the team announced Wednesday.

A defensive tackle from Purdue University, Short started all 50 games played for the Boilermakers from 2009-12. He ranks third in school history for the most tackles for loss (49) and sacks (19.5) by a defensive tackle and blocked a school-record eight kicks, including six field goals.

“We are very pleased to have Kawann under contract,” general manager Dave Gettleman said. “We felt he was the best pass-rushing defensive tackle in the draft, and we are excited about what he can bring to our defensive front.”

In his final season at Purdue in 2012, Short earned second-team All-America and first-team All-Big Ten Conference honors. He started all 13 games and led the Boilermakers for the second consecutive season with seven sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss.
